Instead, this time of the year is now filled with unbridled anticipation for the kick off of the international fashion weeks and wearing our best fall pieces. Of course, until the festivities begin and the weather allows us to try out our new slouchy coats and thigh-high boots, we have kept ourselves busy tracking down every publicist and studying our collection of look books to answer your most asked-after outfit queries for today’s installment of What Was She Wearing: Answers! on Who What Wear. Though we no longer get report cards, we do think we have gathered a truly A + quartet of girls whose outfits are as instructive as they are inspiring!

Alex Woo's Designs for Giving
It’s time to give back! This issue of Town & Country is all about philanthropy. On the cover is Julia Koch (pronounced coke), a woman of manners and generosity originally from Arkansas. As Patrick McCarthy, who oversees the lives of the rich and fabulous in W and Women’s Wear Daily stated, ”Julia’s one of those people who occur in New York every few years… She’s beautiful, she loves fashion, she knows how to entertain, she’s married to an extraordinarily rich man. (David Koch)”
Julia Koch’s Personal style: “Simple during the day, but I love to get dressed up when I go out at night with my husband.”
Juila Koch’s Style icons: Betsy Kaiser and Babe Paley.
In the issue, Alex Woo’s Sweni Horn Bangle is featured as part of the designs for giving. Adorn yourself – and support your favorite charity. In this case the African Wildlife Foundation. Additionally, Alex Woo’s Vida Cuff is also worn on the town by Jessica Moment, co-founder of San Francisco’s Philanthropist boutique – the city’s first confluence of sophisticated shopping and old-fashioned altruism.
Trove, Leroy & Perry, Banana Republic, Dragon Alliance, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hey Lola, Alex Woo, Stella McCartney, LNA, Eugenia Kim and Levi’s prove that green fashion can look good, too.
The cliche about “green clothing” is that it’s one step removed from a burlap sack with armholes and a felt appliqué of a peace sign or a tree. There is a lot of that genre out there — especially T-shirts that make their “green” statement by literally being green or brown and splashing a “recycle” icon across the front.
But every day there are more stylish and subtle approaches. We’ve rounded up a sampling of apparel and accessory lines that not only aspire to give back to the Earth or community, but also actually look good while doing it.

Whenever you talk to retail jewelers about what really makes their business tick, the answer is invariably the same: passion. It’s this passion for the profession that sets the independent jeweler apart from their retail competitors. Such passion is carried through for clients and the community, above and beyond the profit motive. This month, we talked to independent jewelers about cause-related jewelry they sell. Most had a fervent interest… Highlighted in Jewelry for a Cause, Alex Woo’s “Sweni” small horn pendant in 14k gold with diamonds is featured alongside a quote from Kathy Azarmi-Rose, owner of the wonderful one-of-a-kind fashion boutique Kaviar & Kind that is regularly seen and heard in Vogue, Lucky, Daily Candy and other magazines.
Wild Side
“It is beautiful when a designer is able to draw inspiration from nature like Alex Woo did on her trip to the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve and Kruger National Park in South Africa and give back for that inspiration. I love the weight and design of the ‘Sweni’ collection. It’s a natural femininity that is simple and timeless.” — Kathy Azarmi-Rose, Kaviar & Kind, Los Angeles, California
Alex Woo is donating a portion of proceeds to the African Wildlife Foundation in a new and exciting partnership. Since 1961, AWF has been working with the people of Africa to ensure that the wildlife and wild lands of Africa endure forever.
