What a charmer. Alex Woo will donate 10% of proceeds from each snazzy bee pendant to help the Häagen-Dazs Loves Honey Bees campaign. Did we mention free ice cream?

Bon Appétit readers are passionate, hands-on cooks who love being in the kitchen, entertaining, traveling, and dining out. They are interested in what’s new in the food world, as well as up-to-date information on wine, beer, and spirits. Today, Bon Appétit’s executive editor Victoria von Biel (aka the “Conscious Cook”) brings you a new buzz on keeping your culinary life greener, simpler, and healthier.
Here’s a sweet gift for someone you love: The “Little Bee” pendant, a joint project from Häagen-Dazs and jewelry designer Alex Woo, is designed to bring attention to the disappearance of honey bees in the U.S. due to colony collapse disorder. Since bees are responsible for pollinating one third of our natural food supply, CCD poses a significant threat.
Ten percent of sales go to fund research into CCD. The pendant is available in silver, gold and white gold with diamonds, and yellow gold with diamonds. Plus, when you purchase a Little Bee, you’ll get a gift certificate good for a carton of Häagen-Dazs ice cream (maybe the vanilla honey bee flavor?).

To increase awareness of the plight of the honey bees, Alex Woo and Häagen-Dazs co-hosted an exclusive cocktail event for fashion, food and lifestyle editors at New York City’s luxe Henri Bendel’s department store, which took place on Wednesday, October 21st.
Renowned Chef, David Guas, who’s also a bee enthusiast and the star of the Emmy-nominated PBS documentary Chefs A’ Field prepared all of the delicious “bee-friendly” hors d’eourves (yummy!) and created his signature basil-lemonhead cocktail. Of course there was also plenty of ice cream, which is why Häagen-Dazs has been donating money to help figure out why this is happening.
At the event, Alex showcased a beautiful jewelry display which launched her newest addition to her Little Seasons collection, the Little Bee pendant. Guests also had the privilege of viewing the designer’s most popular designs from her icon, fashion and fine jewelry collections.
Häagen-Dazs Help the Honey Bees
Imagine many of the world’s favorite flavors disappearing day by day. At Häagen-Dazs, more than 50 percent of our all-natural ice cream flavors are made with the help of honey bee pollination. The crisis facing honey bees is a crisis facing us all, and it’s time to help.

Imagining a World Without Bees
Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is a term first coined in 2006 for a phenomenon in which worker bees mysteriously vanish from a beehive. CCD represents a looming crisis for agriculture. Pastry chef David Guas knows how important the little worker bee actually is. He joins beekeeper Dave Hackenberg in a picturesque Pennsylvania apple orchard in full bloom to work with the bees and to discuss how they, and our food supply, might be saved.
