In their first annual Personal Style Awards, ELLE salutes the hottest tastemakers–from screen sirens to neo-royals, rebel policos to indie rockers–with the chicest, most daring, individual looks.
“Designer darling” Jennifer Lopez and “Urban Cowgirl” Miley Cyrus, are both huge fans of jewelry designer, Alex Woo. Even though both performers have very different styles, they both love the personalized pieces like JLo’s “m&e” from the Little Letters collection and Miley’s music note from Little Notes.

With Kelly Clarkson gracing the cover of Elle’s Music Issue, you know it is going to be good. Inside, the American Idol shares her thoughts about her life, the music industry and about her ‘type’ – “I can’t stand pretty boys. The guys I date are the just-rolled-out-of-bed, scruffy type. Baseball cap, flannel shirt. Like Luke on Gilmore Girls.”
With a feature inside Elle dedicated to Shops – Greatest Hits “the love affair between the music industry and fashion couldn’t be stronger these days, with looks from spring and fall channeling the most dramatic trends from hip-hop to hippie. Whether you’re feeling inspired to lighten up this summer with breezy tie-dyes, sharpen your edge with fierce, neo-punk accessories, or incorporate hints of raveresque neon, the key is to selectively update your closet and, at the same time, as music legends have done before, stay true to your roots. Shown on the page include Alex Woo’s Little Notes collection.”

In this month’s “Hollywood” issue of Elle magazine, Paula Patton, is recognized as one of the Hollywood It Girls – Sexy, Intelligent, and Worldly. Age 30, she hails from Los Angeles and you’ve seen her in a small, but memorable role opposite Will Smith. This fall she will be in a film playing Denzel Washington’s love interest in the upcoming film Deja Vu. She says working with him “was like going to actor grad school, like watching someone run down the rabbit hole and become someone else. You are free-falling to keep up with him.”
In the photo, by the exceptionally talented photographer Gilles Bensimon, she is wearing an embroidered silk camisole top by Stella McCartney and Alex Woo’s gold Sienna bangles with diamonds. Patton self admittingly reveals she is not a member of the dressed-down L.A. tribe. “I like to be a bit sophisticated.”

Who doesn’t love a bargain? The organizers of giant Hamptons fundraiser Super Saturday bank on this and are never disappointed. The July 29 event’s co-host Kelly Ripa seemed to be the biggest shopper, arriving early and leaving late, laden with shopping bags from Marc Jacobs, Juicy, and jewelry designer Alex Woo (our spy said Ripa literally closed down the event). And it paid to hang around, as prices went down as the day wore on with designers and vendors literally handing things out at the end. Early birds, however, got first dibs at deeply discounted Marc Jacobs bags (which sold out within minutes of opening) and such deals as a $4,000 vintage Chanel suit for $250, $595 Kooba bags for $150, and Carmen Marc Valvo dresses for $200. Shoppers like Donna Karan, Molly Sims, Edie Falco, and Lorraine Bracco helped this event raise $2.4 million for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
This was Alex Woo’s first year at Super Saturday, however, she looks forward to many more years supporting this amazing event.

Before bling bling and Blahnik, girls dreamed of pearls. But, they also cooked — a lot — and ran carpools, not companies. We’ve said goodbye to those antiquated mores, but why throw out the pearls with the bathwater?
These days, jewelry designers are reworking the old-school status symbol in some decidedly unfussy ways. From affordable to aspirational, princess to punk, we’ve picked some of the best.
Designer Alex Woo offers a fresh take on the feminine ‘50s with delicate bracelets, necklaces, and earrings that feature tiny pearls dangling like charms.
