With her Little Icon collection, designer Alex Woo injects fun into fine jewelry by creating charms that are at once elegant ad playful. But Woo is quite serious about her mini masterpieces: “Each one is designed to stand alone like a piece of artwork,” says Woo, who has a background in sculpture, and designs and crafts each trinket in her New York City studio.
Music lovers may dig the tiny musical notes, but there are quirky combos for everyone: Try coupling a silver spade with a 14-karat-gold horseshoe for a little luck, or sport your initials in diamond-encrusted letters for a flashier look. The pendants can be fancy but also, as Woo insists, “classic enough to wear everyday.” – Rebecca Strauss
The downtown club crowd started a new trend by raiding the nearest locksmith for antique Victorian-style keys, often with a rusted or oxidized, almost “dirty” finish, which they put on a cord and dangle around their necks for a modern take on the key to love, life, success, knowledge or any other personal meaning that is key to the one wearing it. Now jewelers have taken that same key and rendered it in silver, gold or pave diamonds for a more upscale customer. A perfect example of this new trend can be seen in jewelry designer Alex Woo’s Little Luck collection. She has created a key icon which is available in silver, yellow gold and white/yellow gold with diamonds.
One of the top trends for 2009, brilliance comes full circle in this very sexy glamourous gold ring bandeau top bikini.
Alessandra Ambrosio, looking very much like one of the beautiful and prophetic Nereids that inspired Alex Woo’s Narissa collection, she sports the Narissa Cuff. A dramatic touch for sand and sea.
TEX APPEAL – Accents for a way-out-West affair

Girls’ Generation (also known as So Nyuh Shi Dae or SoShi) is currently one of the hottest South Korean girl groups today. With an attractive nine-member team formed in 2007, the members (in order of official announcement) include Yoona, Tiffany, Yuri, Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, Seohyun, Taeyeon (the leader), Jessica, and Sunny. Hand picked from a pool of 15,000 Korean and Japanese candidates, the all-round girl group promises to turn the music world upside down with their new generation of sweet melodious vocals.
As the holder of the longest running #1 record on the music portal M.NET for their hit song “Gee” they succeeded in winning the hearts of K-pop fans with an unique confection appeal with feel-good pop rhythm that stays in your head and doesn’t bring you down. As hint of the cross-over appeal, “Gee” was even featured by celebrity blogger and personality Perez Hilton on his gossip website.
However, what keeps the group going are its hardcore fans and Girls’ Generation is no exception. In fact, the girls that run Soshified, the largest international fanbase for the group, went ahead and purchased Alex Woo’s Little Number 9 as special gifts for each singer within the group while they were in Los Angeles performing at the 2009 Korean Music Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. With each of their names personally engraved on the back, not only did they appreciate the gift from their fans, but some of the singers have been wearing the accessory non-stop. Power of 9 anyone?

When the tour de force that is market week whips through Las Vegas this month, exhibitors will, as always, be offering up the latest and greatest designs. But this year, the stakes have been raised. With buyers more cautious and less inclined to gamble on merchandise for their already overstocked stores, suppliers need to offer products that either hits the bull’s eye as an instant classic or is dazzlingly one of a kind.

“The simplest way to clean diamond jewelry at home is to mix a quarter cup of warm water with a drop of Method dish detergent (it cuts through oils, and it’s organic). Dip a soft toothbrush into the solution and gently scrub the piece, rinsing it with warm water afterwards.” – Jewelry Designer Alex Woo
Blush, beige, cafe con leche…pale, natural colors mingle in a sophisticated rhythm inspired by tango — the seductive dance that began in Buenos Aires. Summer’s breeziest clothes take a stroll in South America’s chicest city.
It’s not Evita’s balcony, but this 1973 neoclassical townhouse–restored and transformed inot the hip bar-restaurant Milion–is a splendid setting for a long regal column dress. You don’t need to be svelte to wear the figure-skimming shape; the tiers, edged in gold sequins, seem to elongate the body. Gold accessories–including an armful of Alex Woo’s Sienna bangles– help light up the nights in Buenos Aires, which are lively and long.
Trove, Leroy & Perry, Banana Republic, Dragon Alliance, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hey Lola, Alex Woo, Stella McCartney, LNA, Eugenia Kim and Levi’s prove that green fashion can look good, too.
The cliche about “green clothing” is that it’s one step removed from a burlap sack with armholes and a felt appliqué of a peace sign or a tree. There is a lot of that genre out there — especially T-shirts that make their “green” statement by literally being green or brown and splashing a “recycle” icon across the front.
But every day there are more stylish and subtle approaches. We’ve rounded up a sampling of apparel and accessory lines that not only aspire to give back to the Earth or community, but also actually look good while doing it.
