The Sophisticate in Essence

Essence September 2008

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama joins wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia on the September 2008 cover of Essence Magazine. In this collector’s edition that hit newsstands just before the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Essence captured Michelle, Barack and their two daughters [Malia,10, and Sasha,7] at home. Veteran journalist Gwen Ifill catches up with the Obamas on the road, where they discuss family life, criticism of Michelle, and reaction to Barack’s controversial comments about Black men. The Sophisticate office attire borrows from 1950’s glamour - womanly silhouettes, bold prints, and ladylike accessories - for a look that works overtime. In the feature, the model wears Alex Woo’s Siri Leaf Earring with carnelian, along with the Sweni necklace in 14kt Gold. These accessories definitely add something special to these silhouettes.
